Sports Premium

Key Stage 1 and 2 children follow Get Set 4 PE scheme of work. The fundamental skills are the basis of physical activity in the Early Years, leading to specific sports in KS2. PE is taught by class teachers and by our Sports coach but other outside agencies do also provide cover for our teachers during their planning and preparation time. An extensive swimming course is carried out in Year 5. 

 

Our extra-curricular school sports change each half term. In the Early Years emphasis is on activity and fun, across the middle years it has a multi-skills base using a range of skills in a range of sports, whereas in the upper years, the clubs are sport specific. For example, last year children were able to attend clubs such as: basketball; sports hall athletics; street dance and outdoor adventure. These clubs are usually free of charge, or at a very low cost to parents. At times, the difference is subsidised by the Sports Premium money. We regularly monitor the participation of our school sports clubs to see who are attending and how we could further interest those who have not yet taken part in an extra-curricular sport. Importantly, maximising all suitable spaces available to us at Linthorpe.

Linthorpe is part of the Youth Sports Trust (YST), Middlesbrough Schools Sports Partnership and Acklam Sports Partnership. All of these organisations require a payment, for which we use our Sports Premium money. Membership of these associations has had a quantifiable impact on our PE provision.

Other uses of the Sports Premium money include access to training for staff including teachers, NQTs, TAs and midday assistants. Furthermore, the premium funding also provides help with the cost of transport for some of the inter school competitions and festivals to allow all of our children the opportunity to compete in a range of sports.

We feel that we are spending our current Sports Premium Funding wisely to enable as many children as possible to access high quality PE lessons, participate in a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities and to have the opportunity to engage in competitive matches and festivals with other local schools. The equipment and resources purchased will enable us to sustain the additional sports now offered. In addition, the use of Sports partnership coaches and links will enable us to develop the quality and range of our existing PE and Sports curriculum.

This academic year the PE team hope to offer an even wider variety of clubs, further increase participation of all children in these clubs and improve our own links with sporting providers available in the local area.
